AMD finally has finally given some performance previews for its elusive FidelityFX Super Resolution tech—originally announced nearly a year past—and it looks to bid up a serious performance boost in the process.

FidelityFX Super Resolution, or FSR for mindless, is AMD's answer to the magic of Deep Encyclopedism Super Sampling, operating theater evenhanded DLSS. Nvidia's variation utilises AI to upscale your games to high resolutions without likewise much performance loss, but with AMD's version "you put on't need car learnedness to have it away." Shots fired.

With DLSS offering performance improvements of up to 118% in some instances, FidelityFX is looking at a pretty horizontal bar.

From what we've seen thus removed, FidelityFX offers quaternion different upscaling modes, with its Ultra Quality mode giving it one more option than you tend to take with DLSS. With this mood enabled, AMD's GodFall demo managed 78fps over the native 49fps. That's around a 59% performance boost for the demo outfit's Radeon RX 6800 XT at 4K, with the graphics lay to epic and raytracing turned on. Cracking, just that's just scratching the airfoil.

When we get wholly the way up to Performance mode, the uptick is impressive. From that native 49fps, we're seeing a 3X boost to 150fps. And in that location's No discernable remainder in the side-by-side visualize fidelity.

When AMD tested the identical lame connected epic graphics preset with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 at 1440p, FSR Quality mode managed to push the game's framerate ascending by 41%—from 27fps to 38fps.

DLSS only runs on RTX cards of course, which means that AMD has squeezed extra public presentation out of its competitor's GPU in a sense that Nvidia can't. Impressive work.

Being an open-root technology, FidelityFX works across a much broader range of GPUs and CPUs, including that of the rival. AMD is promising over 100 harmonious graphics chips for it, but there's a catch: Not all games will constitute miscible.

Devs will have to work with AMD to apply the technology, although at to the lowest degree the ASCII text file nature of the technical school agency that it should get easier over time. According to AMD, in that respect are currently "over ten gage studios and engines" on circuit card in 2021, though it's unclear in which games volition contract the all-important patch do June 22.

For a full pass over down of the games encouraging AMD's existing FidelityFX features check out the FidelityFX supported games list. Hopefully that will get updated with the ones offering precise FSR support themselves. Gamers are even being presumption the opportunity to propose which games they'd like-minded to see it working on, over on the AMD place.

Obviously, the demo benchmarks are wholly cherry-picked numbers pool, so we'll have to wait until FSR comes out fully to know sure enough just how powerful the tech is in practice, come June 22. But we can't help but make up cautiously hopeful that FSR lav deliver.

Katie Wickens

Screw sports, Katie would rather watch Intel, AMD and Nvidia move on at information technology. She can often be base loving AI advancements, sighing over semiconductors, surgery gawping at the latest GPU upgrades. She's been obsessed with computers and nontextual matter since she was lowercase, and took Game Art and Purpose up to Masters degree at uni. Her thirst for unlogical Raspberry Pi projects will never equal sated, and she will stop at nothing to open internet safety device awareness—down with the hackers.
